Sony officially launched the new PSP Go Console at the 2009 E3 Expo. Smaller and lighter than previous models, the PSP Go should be a huge success.
Kaz Hirai, CEO of SCE, officially launched the PSP Go Console to an expectant crowd at the first of the summer gaming conferences.
Based on some of the leaked news, he started his announcement by saying that the new PSP Go Console would not replace the PSP 3000 or the UMD. Clearly Sony are looking for the new console to sit alongside the current console.
The PSP Go is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the original PSP console, and looks to be about the same size as the Apple iPhone. The spec of the PSP Go will be as per the leaked reports, namely;
- 16GB Internal Memory
- Bluetooth
- No UMD Drive
Kaz also announced the launch of a new application called Media Go. Media Go replaces the current media manager and makes the transfer of content from your PC or laptop to your PSP much easier. It is also meant to make purchasing and downloading easier too.
There will also be a new app to go with the new console called SenseMe. This app will analyse your music and make suggestions that it thinks you might like. Hmm.
Future PSP Games will be available to download and in UMD format, the latter just won’t be available for the PSP Go.
PSP Go Console Launch Date & Price
The PSP Go Console will go on-sale in North America and Europe on 1st October 2009.
It will be priced at $249 and €249 but whilst this suggests a UK equivalent price of around £150, the actual selling price in the UK is going to be nearer £249.99.
Thankfully, we’ve managed to find it cheaper than this though.
